Porcelain Crowns (caps)

Natural Looking Crowns, Perfect for Restoring Damaged Teeth

Although teeth are fairly strong, they’re not indestructible. A slip and fall at home, sports mishap, or auto accident could result in tooth, jaw, or gum injury. Untreated decay, age, and wear and tear can also take a toll on your teeth, causing them to chip, crack or break unexpectedly. Fortunately, damaged teeth can be repaired through dental crowns. Natural-looking porcelain crowns will have your smile looking and feeling its best again in no time. At Artistry in Smiles, we offer quality dental crown placement to our patients in Los Banos, California, and neighboring communities.

Importance of Repairing Damaged Teeth

Damaged teeth are not only unsightly, but they’re likely to cause painful chewing, which limits their functionality. Over time, your teeth could worsen due to their compromised state. If they reach the stage where the damage is irreparable, your dentist may need to have them removed. Crowning your tooth can relieve your pain, fortify its structure and restore its usefulness along with your smile’s appearance.

Crowns are durable tooth-shaped caps placed over compromised teeth for support and protection. Your Los Banos dentist may recommend dental crowns for chipped teeth, weak or worn teeth, cracked or broken teeth, or severely decayed teeth to save them from extraction.

Dental crowns:

  • Repair damage caused by decay, wear and tear, or dental trauma
  • Protect your teeth from further damage
  • Conceal the damage to restore your tooth’s attractive appearance
  • Relieve painful chewing and
  • Help save damaged teeth from extraction

Dental Crown Placement

Traditional dental crowns can take several weeks to complete. The team at Artistry in Smiles will evaluate your condition, assess the damage and outline a plan for your procedure. If your tooth is decayed, we will treat the cavity first before proceeding with crowns. Next, we’ll prep your tooth by removing part of the enamel to accommodate your crown comfortably.

After prepping your tooth, we will take impressions to send to an outside lab where your crown will be custom-designed and fabricated. This process can take one to two weeks. In the meantime, we can cover your tooth with a temporary crown to relieve pain and discomfort. Once your permanent crown is ready, we’ll call you in to have it installed in place of the temporary one to complete your procedure.

A customized porcelain crown can restore a damaged tooth beautifully. Porcelain crowns are strong and enduring and have a beautiful, translucent appearance similar to natural teeth. Your custom-made crown will look so natural that only a few people, if any, will be able to tell the difference.

Dental Crown Maintenance and Care

With proper hygiene and care, porcelain crowns can last 10-15 years before needing an upgrade. Daily brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleaning are all your crown needs to retain its attractive appearance. To avoid wear and tear, we recommend avoiding habits like nail biting, chewing on pens, pencils, or ice, or using your teeth like tools.
