Composite Fillings

Enjoy BPA-free composite fillings for tooth cavity care

When dental work needs to be done, it is vital to many of our patients at Artistry in Smiles to understand that we strive to have the restoration blend in with the smile and look as natural as possible. This is where restorative and cosmetic dentistry come together, focusing on offering solutions required to achieve better oral health, function, and overall appearance.

Areas of tooth decay found by Drs. Benjamin J. Seaton and Jason Bendas should be considered for tooth-colored or composite resin fillings.

Why should I consider composite resin tooth-colored fillings for a cavity in a tooth?

In the past, and still in some dental practices today, silver amalgam materials have been used to fill areas of tooth decay. Unfortunately, continued studies and research show that this material, made of approximately 50% mercury, harms the human body. These fillings also tend to expand and contract, leaving the natural tooth structure susceptible to bacteria entering inside, resulting in an infection.

Instead, we encourage patients to consider tooth-colored fillings made from composite resin, which is a material that closely mimics the appearance of one’s natural tooth enamel while filling the area and sealing it properly to reduce the risk of infections.

What are the advantages of tooth-colored fillings?

Tooth-colored fillings are:

  • Aesthetic and looks just like natural tooth enamel
  • Safer, eliminating the risk of mercury toxicity
  • Solid and do not expand and contract
  • Placed in a single appointment
  • BPA-free and made of a composite resin material
